Normally I would not post these thoughts to Starbase Orion’s news. However, as I take a moment to reflect on Steve’s passing I realize the incredible influence he has had on my life. My family has always had a Mac, from the first 512k Mac my dad had all the way up to the MacBook Pro I am typing this on. Because of this I started programming a Mac when I was 11 years old. That’s over 21 years of development on Apple products; through high school, college, and continuing today in my professional career. Without Steve, my life would be very different today. I would not have met my wife, nor sired the two children I adore. And for that gift alone I will always be grateful.

While I cram the next few days working to get Starbase Orion out the door for release with iOS 5, I wanted to make a small gesture of my appreciation. So, I decided to name one of the star systems in Starbase Orion “Jobs”. Other people may not know, or even care, but for me it will be my small reminder of the visionary the world lost this day.
